By GLORIA LI AFTER 20 years of development, DECRO (Guangdong Decro Film New Materials Co, Ltd, and Guangdong Decro Package Films Co, Ltd) has expanded and diversified to become a leading innovator in the BOPP film industry, particularly in China where it spearheads functional BOPP film research, development and production. Not only has the BOPP specialist gained industry and market recognition but it is also the recipient of numerous citations for the excellence of its brand. WEIMAN LUO, president & general manager, explains to Food Manufacturing Journal Middle East, the company's shift from a traditional manufacturer to industry pacemaker to take the lead in the field of BOPP film production. What is Decro's current capability and product range? Our BOPP film products are used in a wide range of applications from food, confectionary, labels, gift and flowers wrapping, lamination film to adhesive tapes, amongst others. Our major products include the Hologram Transfer Film that can be laminated with cardboard or heat-sealable film after embossing and glue coating that can then peeled off to transfer holographic patterns, which again be printed for the use to prevent counterfeiting of food products as well as cigarettes and pharmaceuticals. Our Pearl Label Film for high-speed labelling is specially designed for wrap-around labels on PET bottles, such as those for our customers Coca-Cola and PepsiCo as well as those for soymilk and other beverages. We also produce anti-fog film designed for HFFS, VFFS and overwrap applications that are especially for fresh products like ready-to-serve fruits, vegetables and salads as well as fish portions in refrigerated counters. Our peripheral products include adhesive tapes, holographic films and face masks. At present, Decro Pearl Label film dominates the domestic market with over 90 per cent market share in wrap-around label for soft drink bottles, whilst the Decro Holographic Base film series enjoys 60 per cent market share of laser anticounterfeit-based film industry. Other products like crystal film, anti-fog film, anti-bacterial film, synthetic film, pearl film, heat-sealable film, and matt film are all high-ranked quality, with their properties reaching international standards. In other words, Decro brand films are widely applied and used in printing, lamination, laser anticounterfeit labels, food packaging, premium drink packaging and labelling, brand printing, and other industrial applications. Energy-saving and environment-friendly products are increasingly driving the plastics industry, and as part of this trend, Decro has developed "Glueless Lamination Film" What are its features and advantages? We developed our Glueless Lamination Film or "LEg" so that it can be readily applied for direct lamination with most lamination substrates without the need for adhesive to be applied through lamination processing. It is also the world's first BOPP film product with revolutionary significance in terms of energy saving and environmental friendly features. At a certain temperature and pressure, LEg has outstanding features like good lamination bonding and high peeling strength as its functional qualities; excellent machinability as a printing benefit as well as being suitable for foil stamping and screen printing. Decro developed this new product independently in anticipation of a market demand for films that are environment-and cost-friendly yet still can be efficiently processed. Glueless lamination films from Decro save up to 50% in energy costs as well doing away with adhesives What unique selling proposition have you adopted to promote your new product? Decro has adopted the franchising model to promote the product. We always adhere to the business philosophy of "co-dependency, resource sharing", aiming to form a community of interestsNew Arrivals
