Source:EFSA Release Date:2013-12-13 279
Food & Beverage
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) says aspartame at current levels is safe for pregnant women and does not cause cancer nor affect the brain or nervous system

The widely used no-calorie sweetener, aspartame, has been deemed safe for consumption at current levels by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which conducted one of the most comprehensive risk assessments ever undertaken. EFSA’s opinion echoes those of numerous government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration. EFSA also concluded that:

? Aspartame can be used by pregnant women.
? Aspartame does not cause cancer, harm the brain or nervous system or affect behavior or cognitive function of children or adults.

Low and no-calorie sweeteners, including aspartame, have also been reviewed by The American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which have found them to be safe and effective.- Newswise
