From 16 to 21 September 2013, international manufacturers of production technology are spotlighting “Intelligence in Production” at the EMO Hannover 2013.

Following an excellent start, the EMO Hannover 2013 is now entering the finishing straight. Until Saturday, more than 2,100 exhibitors from 43 different nations will still be showcasing their very latest machines and solutions for industrial production operations at the world’s premier trade fair for the metalworking sector. The EMO Hannover 2013 had been opened on Monday by Germany’s President Joachim Gauck.

“The halls are full and the exhibitors are cheerful”, says Carl Martin Welcker, General Commissioner of the EMO Hannover 2013. What’s particularly gratifying is the large number of visitors from the rest of Europe: “This gives us hope that the European market will gradually start to recover as well”, adds Welcker. Many exhibitors are already reporting deals being closed.

At numerous exhibitors, trade visitors can find out what the EMO’s motto “Intelligence in Production” actually means in practice. In many cases, the focus here is on the process chain, the networking of the machine with the company’s overall software, or on upgrading efficiency levels. New control system user interfaces with intuitive man-machine communication, programming and machine status diagnostics using smartphones or a tablet PC, or automatic detection and correction of unsafe machinery states are just a few examples out of many. “The stands provide an impressive demonstration that the EMO is indisputably the premier innovation platform for production technology.”

Welcker also praised Hannover’s hospitality: “The guests from all over the world are being welcomed with open arms here in Hannover. That’s an important plus for the city.” The capabilities of the exhibition centre, too, he added, are most impressive. Transportation of no less than 47,000 tons of machinery and fair goods to the grounds went off without a hitch. The arrival of more than 7,400 trucks beforehand – that adds up to 140 km of vehicles bumper to bumper – was completed without any problems, thanks to good logistical planning. Other figures from the EMO are rather impressive as well: more than 200,000 soft drinks, over 100,000 cups of coffee and 50,000 litres of beer will by Saturday have been served by the fair’s catering outlets alone. And over 2 tons of fish and more than 9 tons of meat will have been consumed.
