Enventure, the world's leading provider of SET? solid expandable solutions for the energy industry, today announced three record-setting milestones of open hole liner (OHL) installations in the Middle East: the successful installation of five 16 x 18-5/8 in. Open Hole Liner (OHL) systems, the longest 4,062 ft. 5-1/2 in. SET solid expandable OHL installation, and the first medium radius installation, all with zero recordable safety incidents.
Four of the 16 in. OHL systems were each installed for the purpose of zonal isolation between different pressured reservoirs. By minimizing the loss of hole diameter, the original wellbore design and well objectives could be accomplished utilizing existing drilling tools, resulting in optimized drilling performance and increased production of the well. The fifth 16 in. OHL system was set across a vugular limestone cavern with catastrophic losses. Once installed, the losses were eliminated and the section was able to be continued as originally planned. Solid expandable technology has been viewed primarily as a contingency application employed when conventional casing is unable to reach the target depth. In contrast, larger diameter, top-hole 16 in. solid expandable technology is a planned component of the well design. Run in the upper wellbore, it creates new design opportunities for preserving wellbore diameter deeper in the hole, in contrast with contingency efforts to save hole size. In another issue, where a producing well was incurring losses, Enventure installed a 4,062 ft. 5-1/2 in. OHL; the first in the Middle East to exit a wellbore through two overcut windows: through both the 7 in. and 9-5/8 in. casings. This allowed the operator to stabilize the formation, drill the extended reach lateral without any problems, and subsequently increased production and revenue. Lastly, the first medium radius installation was achieved by setting 1,849 ft. of 5-1/2 in. x 7 in. solid expandable liner across a full curve section from zero degrees to ninety degrees with an eight degree/100 ft. build rate. This allowed the 7 in. casing to be exited via an overcut window under the 9-5/8 in. casing shoe and still be set at ninety degrees at the target entry point to the reservoir. This milestone is indicative of the success of new technology in the field of expandables; allowing for installations in medium radius build rate sections of well bores that were once considered impossible. “The SET system adds significant value to the wellbore construction process by solving cAir VaporMax Shoes
