The European Commission, the African Union Commission as well as members of the scientific community from the EU and Africa, have committed to improve food and nutrition security in Africa through various projects. The agreement was made during the European Union-Africa High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Science, Technology and Innovation, held from 28-29 November in Brussels.
According to a report in SciDev.net, the agreement will draw support from existing funding tools such as the European Commission’s European Development Fund and new Horizon 2020 research programme; funds from the African Union Commission; national research budgets; and loans from international banks. Projects will focus on Africa’s agricultural and food chain; role of family farms, nutrition security, and water management.
