HANOI, Vietnam -- An architect of in vitro propagation of stevia, Dr Yaroslav Shevchenko has joined Global Stevia Corp Inc. (OTCBB: GSTV) as the newest member of its scientific team. Dr Shevchenko has a PhD from Humboldt University in Berlin where he developed the technique, and has secured a position as a research associate at the Technical University of Berlin. He established several unique and highly productive in vitro root cultures, including the development of a “sprout culture” technique for stevia, resulting in a rapid propagation method.
“We believe that Dr Shevchenko’s research and vision will not only revolutionise how we grow stevia, but also how we use it,” says CEO Phuong Tran. “His pioneering methods have led to new commercial applications of stevia in different food products – leading to innovative uses in our daily lives. This could be a stevia industry game changer!”
Global Stevia is a management company that specialises in the development and distribution of premium stevia. Its focus is on agronomics from plant breeding to best practices and post-harvest techniques, as well as in investments in facilities and intellectual property.
Dr Shevchenko is now studying stevia for its secondary metabolism applications, including its antioxidant properties. He has spoken at several international stevia conferences, including the 4th World Conference on Stevia (2012: Food & Beverages Formulation - The Subtle Balance) in Paris, France on May 24, where he presented preliminary findings of his current research.
