ExxonMobil and Huashan present new packaging option at CHINAPLAS

ExxonMobil and Huashan Plastics Machinery Co., Ltd. have team up at CHINAPLAS to demonstrate how the combination of Exceed™ XP — when eXtreme Performance matters — with quality, cost-effective machinery can be used to produce a 3-layer high stalk ‘soft-shrink’ packaging film. The controlled holding force and toughness of Exceed XP allows the fabrication of a film that provides extreme performance for high integrity wrap, overwrap and bundle packaging required for delicate or irregularly shaped products. The solution is being demonstrated at the Huashan booth (8.1D15). 

“Film converters are always looking for ways to produce high-quality films on high-quality equipment that is affordable and provides value, and this solution meets those needs,” said Olivier Lorge, global market development manager, ExxonMobil Chemical. “Being able to run films which include high-performance, state-of-the-art polymers, like Exceed XP, generate opportunities for converters to tap into new markets.”

These ‘soft-shrink’ solutions help brand owners protect and preserve delicate foods and other products, such as pizza, meat and cheese products, bathroom and kitchen tissues, as well as irregularly shaped products, like office supplies, stationery products and air filters.

Converters can benefit from improved bubble stability which offers the potential to optimize machine performance and increase output. As a single bubble solution with balanced shrink, it offers operational stability and a cost-effective alternative to double bubble polyolefin films. The melt strength offers exceptional processing on high-stalk equipment or traditional blown film lines.

For brand owners, the shrink performance of the film delivers balanced MD/TD shrinkage to protect delicate or irregularly shaped products. Controlled holding force eliminates buckling or distortion that can damage goods, while allowing the creation of highly-effective film solutions for hard-to-package products because they conform to odd shapes. 

Waste can be minimized because the dart, puncture and tear resistance and tensile at break provided by Exceed XP delivers toughness and strength for high packaging integrity. The film’s optical properties, including gloss, haze and transparency, provide stunning print quality, appealing product promotion, high brand recognition and easier bar code reading.
