ExxonMobil launches multi-billion-dollar plant expansion in Jurong

Source:ringier Release Date:2014-02-12 240

Energy giant ExxonMobil (EM) marked its 120th anniversary in Singapore by opening a multi-billion-dollar expansion of its chemical plant on Jurong Island, with PM Lee Hsien Loong gracing the event as GOH. The expansion is EM’s largest investment in Singapore, and Singapore’s largest manufacturing investment ever.

PM Lee assured continued government support for Singapore’s energy and chemicals (E&C) industry, which he said is “one with a bright future”. The Singapore Government will work to ensure Singapore remains the region’s leading energy and chemicals hub, achieving this through the upgrading of facilities and infrastructure on Jurong Island, improving workforce skills and also adopting strategies to tackle climate change.

EDB Director Eugene Leong, said, “The new terminal will allow LPG to be stored and distributed to plants on Jurong Island. We’re in the final stages of discussion and expect to make an announcement in the first quarter this year”.

PM Lee highlighted that job opportunities are available in the industry, given that the highest paid jobs in the manufacturing sector are found there. Many Singaporeans have also built successful careers within the energy and chemicals space.
