Fu Chun Shin Machinery Manufacture Co., Ltd. (FCS) wins 'Excellence Prize' award at TaipeiPlas 2012 for its HT150-SV system, which saves on energy and reduces footprint as well. The HT150-SV system also won first-ever Industrial Design Award at the plastics trade fair.
Dubbed the servo power-saving injection molding machine, the HT150-SV uses a Delta hybrid energy-saving system. The result is not only better control of each movement but also power savings of over 50%, or comparable to a fully electric system.
The energy-saving and low temperature moulding features may have made it stand out among competitors in the injection moulding category, but it is likely that the system's ability to eliminate contamination and improve texture fidelity of PMMA -- a thermoplastic that can be brittle when handled poorly -- that won it the top award.
One important focus that FCS has singled out to remain competitive is to have greater knowledge of material parameters. "Having a better understanding of how the material performs leads to better technology development and machinery design," John Hsieh, an area manager at FCS, said.
"For instance, to create products from PMMA of excellent crystalline character, we customised the injection to enhance the clarity and prevent yellow tones comment to products made from this kind of material," he said.
FCS was also among leading Taiwanese companies tapped by the government to take part in the design competition, which encourages plastic machinery makers to focus on the appearance of their equipment. "The government believes that a good first impression is important in attracting greater interest in machinery," Mr Hsieh explained.
Aesthetic characteristics but also the ergonomic and operational safety features were important in developing the machine design. The result is a compact, streamlined and operator-friendly machine.
