FDA clears Ivera's passive disinfection device

Medical Equipment

Ivera Medical of San Diego, California, has received 510(k) clearance to market Curos Tips, which offers easy and effective disinfection of male luer connectors used in the administration of intravenous (IV) medication therapy.

The new patent-pending device may be used with male luer connections on intravenous access devices, including IV tubing and syringes. The tips passively bathe the connector’s surface with alcohol, disinfecting the device in three minutes. Thereafter, the device acts to cover and protect the male luer. Curos Tips come in a strip dispenser placing five disinfecting Tips in easy reach of the clinician.

“We are pleased to receive clearance from the FDA to market Curos Tips to healthcare providers seeking affordable tools which standardize and promote safer disinfection practices.  Despite the known risks, unsafe practices do occur such as ‘looping’ the exposed end of IV tubing to a port on the same line and reusing sterile caps on syringes between medication pushes. Curos Tips provide a solution that makes it easier for time-strapped clinicians to do the right thing,” said Bob Rogers, Ivera Medical president.Air Jordans
