Fi Asia 2013: Unrivalled success

Food Ingredients Asia Conference 2013 surpassed previous editions as the leading fair took place from 11 to 13 September, at BITEC in Bangkok, Thailand.  The event focused on the theme, “Meeting the global challenges on development of functional food ingredients.”  It was co-sponsored by The Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT) and UBM Live.

Asia’s leading food ingredients exhibition and conference, FI Asia 2013 played host to over 11,000 food professionals from more than 154 countries around the world. According to Christopher Eve, senior vice president of UBM Asia, participation has grown 25% annually over the last four years with expectations for this year to be bigger than ever.  “We anticipate the numbers to increase substantially and more importantly over 50% of our visitors this year are from outside of Thailand, which is very exciting,” stated Mr Eve.

Attendees to the auspicious event were able to gain critical industry insight on such topics as the latest trends in food and drink, nutritional ingredients, food processing, food products, food safety, food spoilage and biotechnology for food innovation.  Visitors had access to interactive exhibitor booths as well as ‘International Country Pavilions’ hosted by the USA, Thailand and China. 

Another highlight was the ‘Innovation Zone’ where new products and information from companies such as Super Life, Pepsi Co and Ingredia were showcased; and the ‘Innovation Tours’ where guests could join topic-focused guided tours around the exhibition hall with the experts from Nutrimarketing. 

Other major features of the show included conference sessions on topics such as “The Harmonization of Food Regulations for AEC 2015”, “Functional food ingredients for the future market” and “Understanding Consumer Behavior Science for the food industry”.
