FOOD Industry Asia (FIA), a group of leading food and beverage companies said in a news report that it will raise food safety capacity building in China and the ASEAN region. The group signed an agreement with the World Bank for the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP) and made an initial contribution of US$150,000 in Asia.
The partnership between the FIA and the World Bank was created in 2012. It aims to improve capacity building and training programs for food safety practitioners in the public and private sectors. The GFSP Secretariat is hosted by the World Bank.
The announcement and signing were made in the presence of members from FIA, the World Bank, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) on 11 September during a high-level meeting at the Vienna Food Safety Forum.
