FLORIGO International B.V., a specialist in snack processing equipment based in the Netherlands, has recently been acquired by global supplier of integrated food packaging and processing solutions, tna.
Florigo is an expert in design, manufacture and servicing of processing machinery, including washing, de-stoning, peeling, slicing, blanching, drying, frying, cooling and freezing equipment.
tna officially acquired the company on 6 March 2015, allowing the expansion of its product range to include the continuous snack and french fry lines – patented continuous vacuum frying lines, french fry lines, multi zone fryers and technology to reduce acrylamide formation.
tna will also have access to Florigo’s patented vacuum frying and de-fatting technology, which enables cooking of products at lower temperatures to preserve natural colours, textures and flavours. The technology is said to reduce the formation of acrylamide by up to 95%. As vacuum frying also benefits cooking products that are high in natural sugar, such as sweet potatoes and fruits, it opens up possibilities for the production healthier snacks.

The Florigo acquisition expands tna’s processing capabilities extensively. Combined with its own expertise, tna strengthens its lead as provider of start-to-finish single source solutions for the snack industry. This and its acquisition of food processing equipment innovator, FOODesign in 2014, will help it meet the growing needs of its expanding global customer base.
tna also said it will expand its existing network of facilities worldwide by about 3000sqm. It has plans to set up a Food Innovation Centre where customers can test new technologies in an effort to optimise existing processes or help with new product development.
