French wine producers to meet importers in Asia

From 9-20 May 2016, two French delegations will present their wines and spirits in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan

TWO French delegations will make the rounds in eight Asian cities to showcase wines and spirits to importers, distributors, buyers and agents. They will be in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Yangon on 9-13 May 2016, then in Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka and Taipei on 17-20 May 2016.

The event is organized by Business France (resulting from the merger of UBIFRANCE and the Invest in France Agency) in partnership, for the East Asia, with the CCI (Chambers of Commerce and Industry) from Midi-Pyrénées and Aquitaine, with “Sud de France” (Languedoc Roussillon region), and with the department of the Pays de la Loire Regional Chamber of Agriculture (SPPL), these operations aim at facilitating business opportunities between French wine producers and local importers.

The standard program is as follows: the morning is for a presentation of the local market to French companies by the Wine and Spirits expert of Business France, while the afternoon gives way to the tasting and presentation of French products to Asian professionals.

May 9-13: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Yangon

Twelve French companies will participate: Wine merchant offering wines from all regions (Advini, DAD, Diva Wine, Grands Châteaux de France, Maison Rouif, Maison Sichel, Selection Patrick Clerget), customized wines (Vignobles Gayrel), Producers from Bordeaux-St Emilion (Vignobles Sulzer), from Burgundy (Mars) with biodynamic methods (Caves Jean Bourdy), and Armagnac producer (CPR Hauts-de-Montrouge).

May 9: The first stop of this four-country business trip is Singapore. The wine tasting session is organized at the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, Cinnamon Room, from 2pm to 6pm.

May 10: French Delegation goes to Malaysia. The wine tasting session is organized in Kuala Lumpur, at the Double Tree by Hilton, Ixora Room - Level 10, from 2pm to 6pm.

May 11: The wine tasting session will take place in Bangkok at the Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park, from 2:30pm to 6pm.

May 13: The final step is held in Myanmar with a highlight at the Ambassador's Residence in Yangon, from 2pm to 6pm.

May 17-20:  Up to 40 French wine and spirits professionals participate at the event in each city of East Asia: Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka and Taipei

They are coming from the wine regions of Languedoc-Roussillon (16), Bordeaux (10), South West (6), Loire Valley (6), Champagne (4), Provence (1) and Burgundy (1)... without forgetting, the island of beauty: Corsica and 4 Wine merchant offering wines from all regions.

May 17: The first stop is the South Korea - country that celebrates the Year of France in Korea. The wine tasting session is organized in Seoul at the Novotel Seoul Ambassador Gangnam, Champagne Room, from 1pm to 5pm.

Next two days are devoted to Japan with a focus on two cities: Tokyo and Osaka.

May 18: The wine tasting session in Tokyo will be at The Landmark Square Tokyo, Lotus Room, from 1pm to 8pm.

May 19: In Osaka, it takes place at RIHGA Royal Hotel, Peridot Room, from 11:30am to 3:30pm.

May 20: In Taiwan, the wine tasting session will be in Taipei, at the Grand Victoria Hotel, Victoria Ballroom, from 1pm to 5pm.

The market at a glance

-In 2015, France exported €12.2 billion of wine and spirits in the world.

-5th customer of France (after China), Singapore remains the most fully developed countries of Southeast Asia. French exports amounted 813 million EUR in 2015 (nearly 7% of the market share).

-Japan is the 7th customer of France and 3rd country of Asia, with 539 million EUR.

-In the 18th, 19th and 20th place rank Taiwan, South Korea and Malaysia. These 3 countries buy more and more French wines and spirits. Thus, French exports reach in Taiwan 158 million EUR (+ 14.5%), South Korea 76 million EUR (+ 9%) and Malaysia 71 million EUR (+ 18%).

-Thailand is in the 38th position with an increase of + 28% (26 million EUR).

Myanmar also registered a strong growth by 18% to reach 1.1 million EUR.
