The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently announced it will formulate new policies with the help of leading experts and consultants. The goal is to have its own international technical standards.
An FSSAI official told Mail Today that the organization also aims to carry out further activities, including collection of data for a nationwide information network on food safety, as well as create and implement training programs. Risk assessment and early warning/rapid alert situations will be given importance, the news report also said.
A study noted that there remains a serious lack of food hygiene and safety knowledge among food handlers in India. Likewise, the country’s agriculture food processing sectors have yet to bring the standards up to par with what international markets demand.
