Full-spectrum vitamin E for brain health at Vitafoods

EDISON, NJ, USA – Carotech, the largest and only GMP-certified palm tocotrienol/tocopherol producer in the world, and its collaborators will be presenting the latest scientific breakthrough at the Vitafoods Europe Conference. There is growing scientific evidence of the beneficial effects of natural full spectrum palm tocotrienol/tocopherol complex (‘Tocomin’ / ‘Tocomin SupraBio’) has in conferring neuroprotection. Professor KH Yuen from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, will be presenting the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study which shows that Carotech’s patented tocotrienol afforded neuroprotection in human volunteers. This is to date the largest human clinical trial on tocotrienols.

The role that full-spectrum vitamin E (tocotrienols and tocopherols) plays in supporting cognitive health in the elderly will also be presented by Professor Patrizia Mecocci from the University of Perugia. In a multicentre European study (AddNeuroMed project), Prof Patrizia and her team showed that low plasma levels of all vitamin E forms and increased oxidative/nitrosative markers may be linked to mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. In another study (Kungsholmen project), the researchers also showed that older Swedish adults who have high plasma levels of all vitamin E forms have a lower rate of Alzheimer’s Disease.
