"Plastics shape the future"  - K 2016 brings the much-awaited innovations under one roof in a technology-packed, highly informative exhibition

The global plastics industry is as dynamic as ever as reflected in the celebrated opening of K 2016. The exhibition opens this week and is highlighted by interesting innovations and world premieres from the industry's biggest players.

Don't forget to catch the main attractions of the trade fair, and one of them is the special show located in Hall 6. Staged for the ninth time and in addition to the extensive array of exhibits at K, it serves as a central forum for an exchange of information, ideas and opinions for trade visitors and the interested public. This time under the motto “Plastics shape the future”, the focus will be especially on the functionality, aesthetics and sustainability of plastics.

The backbone of “Plastics shape the future” are seven theme days of talks, keynote speeches and panel discussions on “Plastics Industry 4.0”, “New materials”, “Lightweight Design”, “Marine litter”, “Youth and Education”, “Plastics meet Design” and “Resource efficiency”. Experts from the worlds of science, business and politics will be reporting on and discussing the economic, social and environmental challenges and potential solutions. Each theme day kicks off with a talk by an acknowledged expert and comes to a close with a panel discussion.

Provision has also been made for infotainment at the special show: the robotics teams of the CJD school in Königswinter as they demonstrate their skills and those of their robots in the Rescue and Soccer disciplines. Dr Gerhard Heywang is also set to perform exciting plastics experiments. And the trade fair showings will be rounded off by the film “Plastics shape the future” by Udo Tschimmel.

One of the high points of the special show will be the talk by Prof. Dr Ernst-Ulrich von Weizsäcker of the Club of Rome on October 25, 2016. Dr. Von Weizsäcker will be speaking on “Resource Efficiency – challenge for centuries”. One should also make a note of trade fair Sunday, because this is when, among others, Olympic winners and the world champions of Team Kunststoff will be visiting the fair and the special show.

This special show at K 2016 is a project of the German plastics industry under the leadership of PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. and Messe Düsseldorf.
