THE GCC dairy market grew by 50% from 2007-2012 to reach US$5.8 billion in 2012. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to be the largest consumer of dairy amongst GCC states, accounting for a staggering 74% of volume. The KSA also leads the way in terms of per capita consumption whereas consumers in Kuwait spend the most on dairy products.
Consumers in the region prefer fresh unflavoured white milk, representing 41% of volume share; laban (a yoghurt drink) share is 21%. Laban is also the fastest growing category with 9% y-o-y in 2012. Cheese leads in market value with 22%, followed by fresh unflavoured white milk.
