Twenty-four countries agree on common green growth strategy for developing countries for 2015–2020

THE Global Green Growth Institute has recently confirmed agreement on a shared strategy in approaching green growth objectives in developing countries for 2015–2020.

Former Indonesian president and GGGI president and chair Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono brought to a unanimous agreement the new five-year strategic plan. Under the plan, GGGI's focus will shift to least developed countries (LDCs), working increasingly in Member countries, and developing bankable projects on the ground.

According to GGGI's director-general Yvo de Boer, the strategic plan will lead GGGI to focus much more strongly on Member countries and the least developed countries while renewing its focus on collaboration with international institutions. The plan included an honest assessment of where GGGI is at the moment and what areas it can achieve maximum impact on in the next five years.

“The plan is the result of a very rigorous consultation exercise that has taken place over the past six months with all of ourMembers. We have incorporated the suggestions of Members for the organization to place more focus on Member countries and to create a leaner, more efficient organizational structure," the Director-General said.

The five-year strategic plan will also reorganize GGGI's priorities to enable it to focus on issues related to green city development, energy, land use, and water.

The international organization has recently announced that the United Kingdom will invest GBP14.8 million or roughly $23 million in the next three years. The U.K. has been a GGGI partner country since 2011 and a founding member since GGGI became an international organization in October 2012.

The Republic of Indonesia has also announced it will contribute $15 million in the next three years.

Yudhoyono remains confident GGGI will achieve its goals. “I believe GGGI's best days are still ahead. We have a bright future. Thanks to the leadership of the Secretariat, the continued commitment of members and the future engagement of new members and partners, I believe GGGI will fulfill its potential as an international institution recognized for its leadership, vision, creativity and ability to deliver for its members," he said.
