GRAND HAVEN, Michigan -- Driven by a rapidly expanding automotive market in China, shifter supplier GHSP announced today that the company has completed work on a new facility that has doubled its shifter manufacturing operations in Shanghai. This is the second new facility GHSP has opened in Shanghai in 2012.
“Our expansion in China comes at a time when China hosts one of the fastest-growing car markets in the world,” said Paul Doyle, GHSP president and CEO. “Our team in China has done a remarkable job of capturing exceptional growth in the business, and we’re excited about the success we are having in our global strategy.”
The new facility has double the square footage of the plant in which GHSP began its Shanghai shifter manufacturing in 2004. The plant produces shift systems for GHSP customers in China. The expanded facilities will accommodate the company’s growth in sales of shifters in China, which are expected to more than double between 2011 and 2013. In 2013 sales in China are expected to represent more than 20 percent of GHSP’s total global shifter sales, with production in China of about one million shifters per year.
GHSP is a leading global supplier of mechanical and mechatronic control systems to surface transportation industries, including automotive, heavy truck and others. The wholly owned business of Grand Haven-based JSJ Corporation has operated successfully in China for more than 25 years.
