Gifted young engineers to build Formula 1 cars at EMO 2013

The VDW Nachwuchsstiftung (Youth Recruitment and Training Foundation) has come up with something rather special for the EMO Hannover 2013.

On the “Mechanical Engineer – a Job with Power” stand in Hall 24 young people will each day be building a model Formula 1 car, enabling them to get to grips with the technicalities of production over the entire process chain involved – starting with the drawing and continuing with manufacture and assembly. Together with leading companies engaged in production technology, they spend about four hours a day working on the racing car. But all the effort is well worthwhile: at the end of the day, each participant can not only take the finished bolide home, but every day, too, a place will be raffled for a technical internship. The internship places will be provided by the VDW Nachwuchsstiftung’s partners - DMG/Mori Seiki, Heidenhain, Index, Trumpf, Siemens and Weiler.

From 16 to 21 September 2013, the VDW Nachwuchsstiftung is once again inviting 6,000 schoolchildren plus 2,000 trainers and pedagogues from vocational schools to the EMO Hannover. The latest technologies will be showcased for a hands-on experience. At numerous stations, the young people will be able to learn more about production technology and experience it live. Trainees and trainers, moreover, will be giving talks on how to get on the career ladder and on their experiences in one of the most exciting sectors of mechanical engineering.

Abundant information on offer for schoolchildren, trainers and pedagogues

The broad spectrum of information on offer for schoolchildren will be complemented by talks and platform discussions for trainers and teachers, themed around issues like CAD/CAM technology in training environments, e-learning, certification of vocational schools for assuring the quality of the training provided, and much, much more. New training documents for trainer and teacher skilling, and new teaching and learning documents for academic and intra-company training will likewise be showcased.

For the first time, the WIKOM knowledge and communication platform will be demonstrated live at the fair: e-learning specifically for CNC training combined with numerous features from the social media field for improved learning location cooperation.

To kick-start the initiative, the successful trainer project in North Rhine-Westphalia, called “KiBa – Vocational training Competence Initiative” will be extended to cover the states of Lower Saxony and Hesse. On the stand of the VDW Nachwuchsstiftung, any trainers interested from these two states can obtain information and advice on current pedagogical and substantive approaches in the field of vocational training.

“The Special Show for Young People repeatedly epitomises enthusiasm for technology. For more than ten years now, we have been taking this concept out into the field, mainly at the VDW’s trade fairs. And it’s being well received: more than 90,000 schoolchildren have already visited us, together with their specialist teachers”, says Peter Bole, Director of the VDW Nachwuchsstiftung. Both in the vocational schools and among the partners in the training sector, this activity has over the years acquired a reputation second to none, and is gratifyingly much in demand.
