According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel), in September this year the crude steel output of 62 countries surveyed across the globe reached 123.6 million mt, increasing by 0.6% on year-on-year basis and stable compared to August this year. Total global crude steel production in the third quarter of the current year stayed almost unchanged with an increase of just 0.4% compared to the same period of 2011, amounting to 376 million mt.
In the third quarter, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 246.9 million mt, up by 1.9%, with 178.3 million mt produced by China, up by 2.1 percent, 27.3 million mt produced by Japan, up by 1.1%, and 17.1 million mt produced by South Korea, up by 2.75% — with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
