As the only regional association representing the common interests of the petrochemical and chemical industry in the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, GPCA has led this region to the forefront of the global chemical industry.
"As one of the newest members of ICCA, GPCA takes pride in providing regional representation for the Gulf. ICCA's latest report indicates the tremendous progress this region has made in implementing the Responsible Care Initiative in the Gulf Region in a very short time since signing the ICCA's Global Charter," said Tahir Jamal Qadir, Director of Responsible Care at GPCA. Through this engagement within the region, GPCA is proactively addressing the challenges facing the petrochemical and chemical industry in the Gulf. "We are actively focusing on the whole value chain in the petrochemicals sector, to ensure the safe manufacture and management of chemicals, which is a key challenge in the sustainable growth of the Gulf petrochemical and chemical industry," said Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun, Secretary General of the GPCA.
Al- Sadoun added, "Responsible Care creates an ideal platform for GPCA members and stakeholders to leverage their expertise on an international level and continue to move towards innovation and sustainable development".
Excelling in all areas of the Global Responsible Care which call for the continuous improvement of Safety, health and Environmental management , and exceeding ICCA's targets, GPCA has earned recognition for the Gulf for its successful efforts in driving the sustainable development of the regional industry through best practices, management systems, codes, policies and guidance documents.
GPCA adopted the Responsible Care initiative at the end of 2009, and in two years, it has has achieved the highest ranking amongst 55 member countries. The organization has exceeded progress milestones in all eight key performance areas since joining, which shows the commitment and dedication of our member companies in ensuring that the petrochemical and chemical industry in the region develops sustainably in a safe, secure and environmentally friendly manner."
Responsible Care, launched in 1985, is a global initiative dedicated to the chemical industry, focusing on improving health, safety and environmental performance by continuously providing guidance to the industry towards its goals of sustainable development.
The ICCA Responsible Care initiative contributes to the United Nation's Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management. In 2006 the Responsible Care Global Charter was launched in Dubai at the UN led International Conference on Chemicals Management.
