Gravure printing for flexible packaging sector

Source:ringier Release Date:2013-01-04 128

Following the successful completion of commissioning procedures in two months this year, a BOBST Rotomec 888 gravure printing press is now in full production at the state-of-the-art factory of Indian flexible packaging manufacturer Parikh Packaging Pvt. Ltd., located in Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat in the western part of India.

It was 1999 when the Parikh Group decided to further diversify its activities by entering the flexible packaging converting arena, which was just then starting to show all the promises of an enormous potential for future growth. The setting up of Parikh Packaging was a forward thinking move by the management of the Group who foresaw not only the untapped potential for direct exports but also the huge increase in domestic demand for high quality flexible packaging due to the transformation of consumers’ patterns and demographics in India.

The transformation is driven by the country’s economic growth which has brought with it rising disposable personal income, expanding modern organised retailing and growing consumerism. With the increase in demand for quality and convenience-based products, today the key determinants for packaging such as lighter weight materials, improved barrier properties, longer shelf life and environmentally friendly disposal have contributed to the increase in the popularity of flexible packaging.

“The Indian flexible packaging industry is constantly moving up the value chain with the continuous improvement of the manufacturing infrastructure on the one hand and the production of very high quality flexible packaging materials on the other”, commented Mr Pavan Parikh, Director of Parikh Packaging. “This does not only apply to the large multinational companies that operate in India, but increasingly to the mid-sized industrial operations like ourselves who have the design capabilities, organizational structure and the type of advanced equipment that enables us to create innovative high performance packaging solutions that deliver value to our customers and our society. “

With its user-friendly and functional technical solutions that provide the efficiency required to deliver high product quality and fast turnaround, the BOBST Rotomec 888 gravure printing press proved the most fitting press to fulfil the stringent specifications set out by Parikh Packaging for their latest investment aimed at increasing gravure printing capacity. “We opted for the Rotomec 888 gravure press because it produces high quality printing, and because of its technical features which enable easy operation together with significant waste and operating cost savings”, explained Mr Parikh.

With the Rotomec 888 press now in operation for five months, Parikh Packaging has had the opportunity of seeing first hand how the technical features of the press can impact on the profitability of gravure printing operations.

“With quick job changeovers, reduced waste, high quality printing and energy savings, the Rotomec 888 truly makes an ideal choice for sound business” said Mr Parikh.

The Rotomec 888 press is housed in Parikh Packaging’s 175,000 sqft immaculate production facility equipped with a clean room facility. The site complies with the high international standards required by the food and pharmaceutical industries, two of the main market segments served by Parikh Packaging, together with other FMCGs in the personal care, beauty and household product sectors. The facility is DMF approved and BRC/IoP certified.

In addition to gravure printing, the facility also comprises equipment for blown film extrusion, gravure printing, extrusion coating, lamination, slitting, stand up pouch making and aMiesten kengät laajasta valikoimasta
