Green practices drive sustainable solutions

Source:Ringier Release Date:2012-01-04 185

? Alain Juteau | Dreamstime.comGreen building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Although new technologies are constantly being developed to complement current practices in creating greener structures, the common objective is that green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by: efficiently using energy, water, and other resources, protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity, and reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation.

Imdaad, a provider of integrated facilities management (FM) solutions in the UAE, has pointed out that policy reforms being introduced by governments to improve the quality standards and minimise the ecological impact of facilities and buildings will help drive demand for sustainable facilities management services.

The green building standards that are in place in Dubai, the Pearl Rating System in Abu Dhabi and the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) in Qatar are among the programs being implemented by governments that are pushing Middle East developers to integrate sustainable facilities management solutions in their developments.

The growing demand for sustainable FM solutions is likewise expected to contribute significantly to the robust growth forecast of the GCC's facilities management sector, which has been forecast to grow by up to 20% within the next five years, driven by strong demand in key markets such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Imdaad further noted that it has already witnessed a marked increase in demand for sustainable FM solutions as property owners and developers seek to align their projects with new government building regulations and international quality standards.

Jamal Abdulla Lootah, CEO, ImdaadJamal Abdulla Lootah, CEO, Imdaad, said, "The introduction of green building regulations and environmental standards by governments in the Middle East has driven developers and property owners to adopt a more holistic approach in the development and maintenance of their properties. This trend has in turn expanded the role being played by facilities management companies in realising the sustainable development agenda of the government and the private sector. Imdaad has been proactively expanding and enhancing our core services, putting us in an excellent position to adequately address the growing focus on sustainability by developers and property owners."

Imdaad has pointed out that sustainability remains a key guiding principle behind the company's continuing search for innovation and improvements in the delivery of FM services. The company conducts regular sustainability audit to uncover new ways to improve and enhance its services, while creating opportunities to incorporate innovative technologies and best practices into its operations.

Imdaad has been a leading proponent of environment-friendly technologies and sustainable business practices in the FM industry. The company has introduced numerous pioneering initiatives that have improved Imdaad's business and environmental performance, while delivering practical benefits to customers, employees and the society in general.
