Dr. Wael Suleiman, the CEO and Partner of Gulf Fluor LLC, has announced that Ma'aden Aluminum Company (MAC) and Gulf Fluor Company have signed a two-year agreement, where Gulf Fluor will supply aluminium fluoride (ALF3) from its new production facility in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD-2).
Dr. Suleiman explained that aluminium fluoride is a strategic raw material for the production of primary aluminium at MAC's aluminium smelter, currently under construction in Ras Al-Khair in Saudi Arabia. He further added that the agreement states that Gulf Fluor will supply high quality AlF3 to MAC's smelter, which is scheduled to start production of the first hot metal on 12 December 2012 and will provide supplies of 10,800 tonnes over the next two years including 2013 and 2014.
Upon signing the agreement, Dr. Suleiman said, "MAC's smelter will have an initial output of 740,000 tonnes of aluminium upon completion of the first phase, rising to 1.5 million tonnes once the second phase is completed. Our company's agreement with MAC signifies MAC's commitment to creating a reliable, cost-effective and robust chain to support the smooth and efficient operation of the smelter."
