Higher number of Chinese exhibitors anticipated in NPE2015

Participation by Chinese exhibiting companies at NPE2015 will break the record set in 2012, SPI predicts.

Chinese companies attracted by the wealth of new business opportunities throughout the Americas will set a new record by participating in the NPE2015 international plastics exposition, it was predicted at Chinaplas 2013 by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association (Booth 9.2-K75). NPE is a triennial exposition founded and produced by SPI. NPE2015 will take place March 23-27, 2015 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

The previous NPE in 2012 substantially exceeded NPE2009 in size, and it attracted more exhibitors and visitors from outside the United States than any other NPE in history, including the largest-ever group of visitors from Latin America. China was the home country of the largest group of international exhibitors by far: 332 companies in all, or 17% of the total. Many of these companies exhibited at three pavilions sponsored by Chinese industry associations.

“Participation by Chinese companies attracted by business opportunities in the Americas has increased with each NPE, and we expect that these exhibitors will set another new record at NPE2015,” said William R. Carteaux, president and CEO of SPI. “The plastics industry is growing throughout the Americas, and business is actually booming in many Latin American countries that China now counts as important trading partners.”

As the world’s largest plastics trade show and conference, NPE2015 will take place at the heart of a $600-billion plastics market stretching from Canada to Chile. Nearly 40,000 plastics processing companies serve this market.

The largest plastics industry in this vast region is that of the U.S. In 2011, more than 17,000 custom and captive processors in the U.S. shipped goods with a total worth of  $380-billion. Another $85-billion in shipments came from U.S. companies that supply domestic and foreign plastics processors with machinery, raw materials, tooling, software, and other inputs.

The fastest-growing plastics industries in the Americas are those of Latin America. An annual GDP growth rate of 4% is anticipated for the region as a whole between now and NPE2015—a rate that will outperform the rest of the world. While the combined population of the countries in Latin America is 600 million—nearly double that of the U.S.—per capita consumption of plastics is smaller than in the U.S. and Canada, holding much potential for future growth.
