Persico, in collaboration with Structura/IQ Holding, has come up with the Skintec composite material and a form of technology that is used to convert it into finished parts that involve low investments costs and extremely high productivity levels. Skintec is an innovative thermoplastic composite laminate which is suitable for thermoforming structural components for the automotive industry at highly competitive prices. It is basically a planar laminate based on a fabrics made out of glass, carbon, basalt fibre etc., that is made by continuously impregnating thermoplastic PBT. This laminate, with its high fibre percentage (up to 70% in weight in the case of glass) can be thermoformed using heat and, thanks to technology that was developed in-house by Persico together with Structura/IQ Holding, it can reach production levels of up to one part every 15 seconds.
Skintec PBT is made without any VOCs or toxic emissions, it is fully recyclable and environmentally-friendly. The laminates, at the end of their life span, can be ground up and reused, albeit on a much lower quality level. The layup of the composite is created by lamination meaning that Skintec PBT laminates are not made as standard but specifically for the final application. The Skintec PBT laminate is supplied in coils a/o in pre-forms that are ready for thermoforming, so meeting customer-requirements even further.
