The first day of TaipeiPlas 2012 brings a wealth of knowledge to participants attending the various technical seminars. Mr. Alex Cheng, Senior Project Manager, TüV Rheinland Taiwan Ltd. talks about the requirements and standards for horizontal injection moulding machines being exported to North America.
The North American market has high demand for horizontal injection moulding machines. However, standards must be met in order to penetrate this vast market. ANSI/SPI B151.1-2007 is the existing standards on the safety, manufacture, care and use of horizontal injection moulding machines in the North America. The set of standards was drawn up by American National Standards Institute in collaboration with the Society of the Plastics Industry.
With the presence of a wide variety and sizes of machines manufactured and in use, and the infinite combinations of parts being produced, the production methods and operating conditions existing in the industry today must take into consideration, not only performance but safety as well. Thus the primary objective of the set of standars is to minimise the hazards to personnel associated with machine activity.
