IAS 2014: M&M Software boosts cloud computing services

FDT technology, which can be widely used in process and factory automation, is increasingly employed in field asset management with strong support from the FDT Group and its member companies. The FDT standard was approved as an official China National standard GB/T 29618 in 2013.

One area is Microsoft’s Windows Azure (R), which the firm is looking to use to create novel solutions for engineering, data capture and analysis, maintenance, and asset management.

Cloud computing is seen as a growth area in industrial automation, according to a survey done last year by the VDI/VDE Association for Metrology and Automation Technology. Although the majority of the survey respondents expect it would take five years or more before the technology becomes a staple in the industry, two-thirds of survey participants expect cloud computing to be widely used in industrial automation.
