India as second biggest para-xylene market by 2017

India is set to become the global power in the para-xylene (p-xylene) industry as its Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) industry is embarking upon a large scale capacity expansion in the next five years.

The PTA industry, the largest consumer of p-xylene, has faced tight supply in India for the last few years due to limited capacity. However, this is about to change as various petrochemical companies have announced that they are setting up new PTA plants, creating opportunities for the p-xylene industry.

This will provide the Indian p-xylene industry with additional demand and will make it the second largest market in the world by 2017.
