Intertek inaugurates food lab in Germany

QUALITY solutions provider, Intertek has inaugurated a 1,400-sqm facility in Bremen, Germany that will service the food industry, particularly in product and hygienic controls and sensory testing. The company has also invested in state-of-the-art laboratory technology spanning 3,000sqm.

At the launch, Dr Kurt-Peter Raezke, managing director of Intertek Food Services GmbH said: “As food and animal feed safety remains a key issue for EU governments as well as consumers, areas of microbiology, DNA analysis, feed testing, residue testing and authenticity checks are an essential part of food producer investments. By offering a broad spectrum of test methods for food and feed suppliers, this enables Intertek to be the right partner in terms of food safety for local, regional and global companies. The expansion of our portfolio in analysis - in conjunction with our testing and certification services – strengthens our approach, allowing us to offer consistent services from producer to consumer."

Industry speakers delivered presentations on food safety in the supply chain, from production and processing of raw materials to through trading and legal. Amongst them were John Carter (Metro Group), Jens Führer (Mondelez International), Petra Schmanke (Nestlé Germany AG), Dr. B?rbel Schr?der (State of Bremen), Prof  Dr Moritz Hagenmeyer (KROHN lawyers, Hamburg). Attending the event were 120 food leaders from Europe.

Intertek has 110 employees in Bremen, and an additional food testing lab located in Linden (Hessen), supported by a site in Stuttgart which focuses on certification and auditing. Together these help to make Intertek Food Services a reliable partner in food safety to worldwide customers.
