Intertek’s new coal lab is strategically positioned at Jet Park, just minutes away from Johannesburg’s international airport and with easy access to a well established road network which is expanding into neighboring countries. Major participants in the world’s coal industry have turned their focus onto Southern Africa and its abundance in coal reserves. Intertek is expanding coal related services in this region as the coal industry expands.
The laboratory is primarily designed to handle large volumes of channel and core samples with strict process flow controls to ensure turnaround times committed to are met and that test results published are accurate and traceable.
Initial technical services on offer include sampling and sample preparation, chemical analysis properties of coal, physical and mechanical properties, and special combustion tests. Additional services will be added as expansion of capabilities continues.
Jay Gutierrez, Executive Vice President for the Commodities division, said, “The opening of this new modern coal exploration and production laboratory is part of the strategic commitment by Intertek to providing quality analytical and inspection solutions to the minerals industry in Africa. All testing will be done at the same high standards our clients have come to expect and are accustomed to receiving from other Intertek mineral facilities.”
