INVISTA will showcase its NovadynTM polyamides at the NPE International Plastics Showcase, which will run from March 23 to 27 in Orlando, Florida.
The highly versatile, transparent, semi-aromatic polyamides can be used as differentiated blend additives to improve traditional nylon performance. They can also be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, electrical, industrial, and consumer products.
Combining strong performance, cost effectiveness, and recycled content, the DT/DI polyamides are ideal for customers requiring parts that are both transparent and chemically resistant. The Novadyn DT/DI and DT polyamides are also suitable for modifying crystallinity, enhancing glass transition temperature, and lowering costs, making them ideal for molding, film, filament, and fiber processing applications.
When used as a blend additive for traditional nylons, the Novadyn DT/DI polyamide boosts the conditioned mechanical properties for nylon 6,6 and nylon 6, yielding up to 43% improvement in conditioned flexural strength and stiffness.
According to Invista New Business Development director Allen Reihman, “The nylon world is not ‘dry as molded.’ In humid environments, Novadyn polyamides can boost traditional nylon properties, enable thinner parts and enhance light-weighting initiatives.”
“We designed Novadyn DT/DI polyamide for transparent applications where polycarbonate struggles with chemical resistance or where more costly transparent polymers may be over-specified,” Reihman added.
Wilmington, Delaware-based Invista is one of the world’s largest integrated producers of chemical intermediates, polymers, and fibers with leading brands such as Lycra®, CoolMax®, Cordura®, StainMaster®, and Antron®. Its advanced nylon, spandex, and polyester technologies are used to produce clothing, carpet, car parts, and many other everyday products. The company currently operates in more than 20 countries with about 10,000 employees.
