Isuzu Optics

As the name suggests, light spectrum and color are central to everything made by this Taiwan subsidiary of the Isuzu Glass Company of Japan. "All our products are in fact related to light measurement, from components to spectral camera, hyper-spectral chemical imaging" says Steve Tso, Manager for Marketing and Sales. The company has an interest in the application for bio-medical research. The mother company makes the glass and Izusu optics in Taiwan turns out the precision optics. It also represents medical products from other countries and integrates systems for customers. The company also plans to sell integrated customized product into the overseas market. It is a work in progress,?Tso says and so far we have taken our first steps in Asia ?mainly in Japan, Korea, China, and India. The company's Spectral Irradiance Meter is used for medical luminant applications. Its 360 degree panoramic lens used for general surveillance now incorporates an application for home care surveillance. In Taiwan, the company's exclusive market, "we'd like to combine our technology in light measurement with spectrum and intensity measurement and make spectral imaging as our core product" said Tso. This, he expands proudly, is an 'optical dream'that has been born in-house and that is currently in product development. "We want to use it in microscopy and some clinics." Isuzu cooperates with select universities, with the Government Research Labs ITRI in Taiwan, and other instrument centers. At present the company's technology is used in lighting "but since our products are bio-medical we see this as the first milestone in the development of a spectral imaging product" Tso observes. But, he says "because some of these products are so new we have to wait for the world to get the message" Competition he asserts, is always a challenge. To rise to the challenge the company, with a high attendance rate at many international exhibitions related to photonics and has no intention of losing sight of its goal.
