At this year’s in-cosmetics, South Korea was the new country focus. Apart from a special feature display, which included advanced ingredients and packaging as well as finished product, a series of presentations also probe the South Korean cosmetics industry.
Speaking at Market Trends Seminar during the show, Florence Bernardin, the founder of cosmetic market analysts Information & Inspiration, offered an insight into the South Korean market. The key trends in this vibrant market include:
* More is better: Skin care regime are becoming more sophisticated
* All about mist: More products take form of being 'mistable' and mobile
* All about oil
* Addiction to masks: Various forms include bubble/self foaming, oxygen, sleeping, and sheet masks
* CC and BB creams are still popular
* Vibrating applications are all the craze
* More novel/funny textures, such as watery gel, transparent and transforming textures
* Cooling down skin feeling, increasingly found in products with anti-thermal aging and/or regenerating claims.
Last but not least, man care. South Korea is the No.1 men care market in Asia.
During his presentation “Current R&D and Herbal Medicine Trends in Korea” at the show, Chang Seo Park, head of the R&D Centre at NCR, pointed out the major factors which contribute to South Korean cosmetics success:
