The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - A Railway Hub

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has entered its next phase of development for railways with SAR (Saudi Railway Company) emerging as a major link within Saudi Arabia to expand the trade network.

The rail network will be used to transport the largest freight of minerals such as phosphate and bauxite. To achieve a smoother and harmonized trade in the region, an investment of $45 billion has been approved by the government of Saudi Arabia to boost its railway connectivity. The North South Railway Line which is the first active freight line is almost in its completion stage and will be operational by mid 2014. Many other projects like the Jeddah Metro, Makkah Madina Rail Project and others are in the pipeline.

The 5th Annual Middle East Rail Opportunities responding to the current economic boom in the Kingdom will be held on 5 - 6 May 2014 in Riyadh. The two day summit will include intense discussions on the on-going rail projects in the Middle East. While reviewing the the operational challenges in the railways and the trade links being laid across the regions, the summit will provide recommendations on opting the best strategies, proposing advancing innovations & tailor made solutions to the region's challenges.

A special CEO panel discussion on 'Prioritizing Rail in the GCC Region' will be a part of the summit's two day program. Lead by Eng. Ibrahim K. The panel will reveal techniques for better reliability, maintenance, flexibility and integration of existing rail infrastructure.
