Konecranes technology lifts Malaysia firm to new levels of safety

Konecranes latest SMV EC empty container handlers have been chosen by one of Malaysia’s largest container services company, Syn Hee Container Services Sdn Bhd, to safely lift empty containers at their 4 hectare facility in Malaysia.

“Konecranes has a reliable team and the machines do better in performance than anything we’ve used previously,” says Managing Director of Syn Hee, Mr Lawrence Ho, whose company provides custom manufactured containers to all of Malaysia.

Konecranes' newly designed Empty Container models used by Syn Hee – in single or double stacking empty container handlers – have been developed to suit a wide range of different applications, and incorporate the latest technology in meeting rigorous existing and anticipated standards. The main design features are the result of thorough analysis of material handling requirements and will ensure maximum productivity.

A rigid, box-section chassis and a load-sensing hydraulic system provide the platform for the masted empty container handler range starting from stacking four up to eight high. Applications include ports and terminals, saw mills, pulp and paper, steel and industrial work sites.

“The trucks are equipped with load-sensing hydraulics that adapt the power of the engine to the weight of the goods, which reduces fuel consumption, emissions and noise,” says Mr Adrian Lim, Country Manager, Konecranes Malaysia. “This advanced technology decreases the life cycle cost and reduces wear on the hydraulics, engine and gearbox, which allows the truck to outlast our competitors,” says Mr Lim.

Syn Hee has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Konecranes since 2002 when the Malaysian facility first opened and their first lifter was purchased. They currently use a single and a double stacker, with a second single stacker to be delivered later this year.

The containers, which weigh approximately 4t empty and up to 9t when full, include portable cabins, dry containers, labour quarter cabins and containers, site cabins, container offices, workers quarters and workers hostels. Syn Hee deals with new and used containers and has built a reputation for timely delivery and quality products.

“In our business, stability is more important than speed when lifting such heavy items and positioning them in precise locations. The Konecranes lifters provide the stability and precision that we need, while ensuring the highest levels of safety. Safety is our number one priority and that is why Konecranes is responsible for the servicing and maintenance of these machines,” says Mr Ho.

Syn Hee has steadily expanded over the past 2 years and is planning further expansion once the new Konecranes lifter arrives. “The customers really like the new machines,” says Mr Ho. “They perform more efficiently and safely and that’s what’s most important,” he says.
