THE Saudi Arabian government has approved the decision to ban advertisements on energy drinks, and lauded the move by the Council of Ministers toward this direction. According to H.E The Chief Executive Officer of SFDA, Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Almishal, the decision was based on scientific data on the components of energy drinks. It was noted that ads can be misleading as to the effects of energy drinks.
Moving forward, the government has banned the sale of energy drinks in restaurants and canteens in government facilities, education and health facilities, lounges, sports clubs and gyms. Moreover, the new regulation requires factory owners and importers to provide a warning label in Arabic and English on the effects of energy drinks.
