KSU to hold refresher course on bulk solids handling

THE Kansas State University (KSU), which has developed its own innovation center for bulks solids handling, invites employees, managers and supervisors in various industries including food, pharmaceutical, grain and feed, plastics, mineral and chemical, to attend a refresher course from 26-29 January 2016.

The course with hands-on training will cover the following topics:

• Flow properties of bulk solids and common flow problems
• Particle characterization and caking
• Feeders and mechanical conveying
• Bulk solids flow in bin, hopper, and chute
• Particle segregation and solutions
• Material handling equipment design
• Dilute and dense phase pneumatic conveying
• Discrete element method to solve flow problems
• Instrumentation, valves, and PLC control used in bulk handling
• Solid gas separation technique
• Dust explosion
• Power and bulk mixing - equipment and design

The training will be held at the Bulk Solids Innovation Center in Salina, Kansas where attendees will have the opportunity to learn using equipment and controls for measurement of actual bulk solids behaviors including storage, conveying, gravity flow, blending, segregation, degradation, dust collection, safety, and air pollution control.
