MONTREAL -- Lallemand is pleased to announce that its major yeast and bacteria probiotic products have received the halal certification from IFANCA, the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America. The company’s probiotic products that have received the Halal certification to date are the famous yeast probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii and the ‘Probiocap’ microencapsulated bacteria strains: Lactobacillus Rosell-52; Lactobacillus Rosell-11; Lactobacillus casei Rosell-215; and Bifidobacterium Rosell-175. These probiotic strains are well described; they enter into the formulation of the company’s key probiotic supplements and are also available for direct sales or for inclusion into custom formulations.

Saccharomyces boulardii is the only probiotic yeast used in human, it is widely documented for its benefits in diarrheas prevention (>300 publications): Prevention and reduction of antibiotic associated diarrhea; Prevention of C. difficile recurrent infections; Prevention of acute gastroenteritis in children as well as traveller’s diarrhea, Crohn’s disease, and chronic idiopathic diarrhea
Lactobacillus Rosell-52 is proven to: compete with pathogens for adhesion to epithelial cells; inhibit the adhesion of pathogens to the intestine’s epithelial cells thanks to a layer of proteins; and maintain the intestinal barrier and prevent infections from pathogens like E. coli and H. pilory
Lactobacillus Rosell-11 is shown to: increase the expression of mucin in the jejunum and ileum; greatly reduce pro-inflammatory reactions (IL-8…); and pNike
