Fragranced Biodegradable Film Patented by Kimberly-Clark
US Patent No. 8,759,279 B2; Kimberly-Clark has patented a method for forming a fragranced biodegradable film. It entails supplying at least one thermoplastic starch to an extruder and injecting at least one liquid fragrance into the extruder to form a fragranced thermoplastic starch, wherein the liquid fragrance has a boiling point at atmospheric pressure of from about 125°C to about 350°C; blending the fragranced thermoplastic starch with at least one biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic copolyester to form a blend; and casting or blowing the blend onto a surface to form a biodegradable film. The injection of the liquid fragrance is accomplished without pre-compounding the fragrance. The thermoplastic starch includes a biodegradable starch polymer plasticized with a polyhydric alcohol.
