Machinery worth over AED 18 billion brought into Dubai in 180 containers were displayed at Arabplast 2013, the Middle East’s premier trade show for rubber, plastics and plastic processing, which was held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre. This value was 20 percent higher than in the 2011 edition, according to the show’s organisers. The machinery display area this year constituted about 40 percent of the show’s gross area. Companies from Europe (Austria and Germany) and Asia (China, Japan and India) came in full force to sell their machinery to the lucrative MENA market.

Machineries and technologies that gained tremendous interests and enquiries from visitors include those on injection moulding, blow moulding, wrapping and packaging, pre and post plastic processing. Exhibits in the areas of raw materials -- such as masterbatches, additives and polymers – drew a large number of visitor gatherings.

Industrial machinery forms the bulk of investment of any plastics production company as well as petrochemical manufacturers, and this factor has helped Arabplast’s growing importance as premier show in the MENA region.Companies from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Jordan, KSA, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Netherlands, Turkey, U.A.E, U.K, U.S.A and Vietnam participated in the show.

UAE’s strong role in the Gulf’s
plastics industry
What makes Arabplast a continuing success is partly due to the fact that it is held in one of the region’s most dynamic economies. The industrial sector of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) contributed 16 percent to the GDP in 2012, and this is expected to rise by 3 percent this year, according to Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy.

Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori was guest of honour during the opening of Arabplast 2013 on January 7. He stressed the importance of plastics and petrochemicals industry in the UAE, as reflected by the tremendous growth in the production of raw materials in the region. The UAE industrial sector was driven by three key pillars: petrochemicals, aluminium and steel.

He added that petrochemicals play an important role in bridging the import-export imbalance between the UAE and countries in North America and Europe. Gulf countries Arabplast 2013, co-organised by Messe Düsseldorf Germany and Al Fajer Information and Services, has emerged as No. 1 show in the world for value of onsite machines displayed and in the sales of raw materials. It is also ranked as the No. 1 show in the region and No. 4 in the world in plastics and petrochemicals, according to SatishKhanna, General Manager, Al Fajer Information and Services. A record number of 900 companies from 41 countries participated.

Shine Well showed its new module CX series which adopts a one-piece frame design for minimising structural deformation to the base. The newly developed high speed toggle mechanism improves magnification for reducing dry cycle more effectively and, as a result, increases total production.
