LycoRed to launch beta-carotene colourants

LycoRed Ltd has developed innovative beta-carotene colourant formulations that deliver high-intensity colouring. The qualities of Lyc-O-Beta^TM Intense and BetaCote^TM Intense will allow food manufacturers to reduce colourant usage.

Their colour intensity is higher than that of any other beta-carotene colourant on the market. They deliver a final-product colour shade similar to competitive products; and, compared to other technologies, the LycoRed colours are extremely resistant to the fading that can occur during pasteurisation and other stressful processes.

“Manufacturers, especially makers of beverages,” says Roee Nir, global commercial manager of colour for LycoRed, “consider higher colour intensity and stability their top priorities when it comes to natural colourants. Another critical parameter for decision makers is colour solubility.”

LycoRed’s new product line is also highly soluble and is available in concentrated liquid form for user-friendly processing and production. Non-foaming, it also avoids the clumping issues common to some powdered colourant formats, thus making it ideal for use in ready-to-drink beverages.

Additionally, the colourants are available in both natural and nature-identical sources. They are not only vegetarian, they are also kosher and Halal and certified free of any allergenic ingredients (as listed in the EU’s Directive 2003/89/EC and as identified in the EU FOOD Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of August 2nd 2004). The colourants are also free of DCM (dichloromethane), a common ingredient found in beta-carotene powder products.
