An online survey reveals 61% of women clean makeup brushes less than once a month or not at all
THE majority of women could be risking skin health with continued use of uncleaned makeup brushes.

A recently online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Anisa International reveals 39% of women who use makeup brushes clean them less than once a month. Twenty-two percent of survey respondents admitted to never cleaning these makeup tools.

Makeup residue, oil, and dead skin can collect on makeup brushes and impact skin health, turning one’s best beauty tool into the skin’s worst enemy. Twenty-two percent of respondents point to the long cleaning and drying time as the main reason for not cleaning their makeup brushes. One in five respondents or 21% said they were not aware the brushes need cleaning, while 19% just purchase new ones. Another 17% of respondents—31% including millennials—do not know the proper way to clean makeup brushes.

Anisa Telwar-Kaicker, founder and CEO of Anisa International, suggests cleaning cosmetic tools at least once a month, with the best scenario being twice a month.

“Interestingly, 65% of women who clean their brushes do so to avoid bacteria, breakouts and blemishes. They understand the consequences, but they still don’t clean them as often as beauty experts recommend,” said Ms. Telwar-Kaicker.

The majority of women who do clean their makeup brushes, or 85% of survey respondents, use household products such as water, shampoo, dish soap, or olive oil.

A global leader in the design and creation of unique beauty tools and solutions, Anisa International is working with top beauty brands to develop easy-to-use brush cleansing wipes and sprays that also allow brushes to dry within minutes. The products will offer a convenient, stress-free way of cleaning and drying makeup brushes for a shorter period of time and without damaging the brush.

Anisa International has more than 600 people at its corporate and creative headquarters in Atlanta. Its global presence includes a manufacturing facility in Tianjin, China; a showroom and design studio in New York; and sales/marketing offices across the United States, United Kingdom, and China.
