Manganese demand to grow 8% annually

Asia-Pacific is reported to be the largest regional consumer of manganese in the world market, according to a study on manganese completed by Merchant Research & Consulting Ltd. The level of demand in the region is forecast to grow at 7.5-8% annually. Manganese market is closely following the revival period of the infrastructure industry and, more precisely, steel manufacturing. Increased demand from these sectors is propelling the global manganese markets, its driving force being exceptionally strong in the developing countries. In 2009, China emerged as demand leader in this industry and a large-scale importer of highgrade manganese as the domestic production is still not developed enough producing vast volumes of low-grade material only.
