Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont are reportedly holding talks to merge, a move that will create a mega company with market value of over $120 billion, according to several media reports that cited sources familiar with the negotiations.
Subject to regulatory approval in several countries, the merger will result in the two U.S. companies combining their assets and establishing businesses in the areas of plastics and specialty chemicals as well as agrochemicals.
Dow's Chief Executive, Andrew Liveris, and DuPont Chief Executive Edward Breen would occupy top positions in the combined company, reports said.
Dow and DuPont have not made any announcements on this matter. The Wall Street Journal first reported on the merger talks early this week.
