Metal detection in bulk products

PROCESSORS and packagers of bulk food products can strengthen quality with new product inspection equipment from Mettler Toledo Safeline, which challenges the industry perception that metal detectors must have small apertures to provide superior detection sensitivity.

Equipped with an advanced Safeline detection coil and new detector head geometry, the RB Series Profile provides high detection sensitivity with a large aperture configuration to ensure the safety of bulk products. With an aperture of 650mm x 400mm, it can typically detect contaminants smaller than 1.8mm in diameter, including ferrous, non-ferrous and even difficult to identify non-magnetic stainless steel grades such as 316.

The system can be configured to inspect bulk bags and sacks of granular and powdered products from 25kg to 50kg. It can also handle dry, wet, loose or packed bulk products such as meat, poultry, cheese, and dairy products.
