Co-organised by TAITRA, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and TAMI, the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, this year's event was no exception, featuring a swath of big name and lesser known Machine Tool companies, on hand and stand, to display their latest products and technology, in six different theme areas.
Exhibitors' Fedback Quick-Tech's new IT-42 Robo machine, like others in the range, represents a partnership with, and technology transfer from, Germany's Mugatech with headquarters near Stuttgart and a factory in Tainan. At the same time it points the way the industry is headed. "We've always pursued a very global approach so it seemed quite normal to invite our overseas agents to become our partners," says International Marketing Manager Karen Kuo. The Quick-Tech -Muga-tech join venture, based on a mutual management policy "of honesty is the best policy" has turned out to be a dream of a corporate marriage. R&D takes place in Taiwan with input from Germany. The new IT 42 series being very much in line with company policy to produce machine tools is "conceptually unique in both design and performance." The goal was demanding. Quick-Tech engineers came up with the IT- 42 4 axis gang tooling lathe and the IT-42 Robo- a modified version of the IT-42 with internal integration of a Mitsubishi 6 axis articulated Intelligent Robot. With its 88 programs it can handle work pieces of up to 6kg - ideal for billets, castings and forgings. The machine is also fitted out with high precision HIWIN linear guide ways and its cartridge type spindle runs on P4 high precision bearings. Using a robot separately often causes trouble with interfacing and machine set up but with IT-42 ROBO it is an intuitive and interface friendly operation. "Cycle time is saved and programs can be run simultaneously." A combination she hastens to add that is much in demand on the European market. And now with the global economy warming up from a marketing point of view, Kao says, "the sky's the limit."
Knowing the market, working through an agent and taking serious account of the feedback are core elements of the Sister success story. All Sister models and designs are based on input from agents says General Manager and Chief Engineer Tony Wang. His new double column super mould cutting machine, SD-543 bowing in at the show this year has a spindle speed of 36000rpm (27,000rpm is the standard) for cutting extra hard material like graphite. And in terms of meeting a specific market need it is a perfect example of his corporate credo. Apart from advanced engineering and devastating accuracy it also boasts an "own design" controller, something few other local machines makers can. "If you pitch in with a higher price you have to stress efficiency of the machine for making good products" Wang contends. And as the order books fill customers quite obviously agree. After all, a solution, innovation, superiority, technique, efficiency and reliability all add up to the name SISTER. "And we won't lose sight of this fact" Wang adds.
Two new editions to the Ray Feng line up of Auto Lathes, RSB20 and RSB25 have a main/sub spindle and front/back tooling systems. Both have basically the same spec but differ in handling capacity. The spindle speed has been increased on the RSB25 to produce micro components or watches. "The sub- spindle completes the work process in one stage and if needed, can produce two pieces simultaneously," explains Andy Liao who heads up the company's overseas sales department. "You can say that with the sub-spindle the workload goes up and employment goes down." Only a single labourer is needed to control three or four machines atNike
