MTA Singapore 2013 posts record attendance

Many of which came to source for the latest machine tools and precision engineering technologies available in the global market place today. With the precision engineering and manufacturing sectors in Singapore moving away from low value mass manufacturing towards servicing high value industries that require complex equipment and machinery, industry players need the latest technology and know-how to level up their capabilities to meet the demands of these industries. 

Sodick is one such exhibitor that is at the forefront of the latest technology. Their newest silicon moulding machine from Japan was extremely well received at MTA2013. “Silicon is traditionally used to produce low value products such as baby bottle teats. Therefore, the advanced application of silicon moulding to manufacture high value components such as camera lenses, LED casings and medical parts is a very new concept in Singapore. Recent studies have shown that using silicon to produce these parts has far superior qualities compared to using traditional thermal plastic. There are a few pioneering local companies that have already adopted this technology, and from our four days at MTA2013, we have definitely seen much interest. As it stands, we have already sold two machines!” said Mr. Eddy Goh Regional Product Manager of Sodick Singapore.

3D printing, another emerging technology that has been earmarked by the government as the future of manufacturing is also beginning to catch on among local organisations. Mr. Toh Cher Lek, R&D Director of New Kinpo Group, who came to MTA2013 to source for 3D printer suppliers commented, “MTA allowed me to find new 3D printing suppliers and vendors, and was a great platform for me to learn about the latest in 3D printing and also a new type of 3D printing – 3D metal printing. Exhibitors were reputable and were professional and efficient in their dealings."

As the four-day event drew to a close at 6pm today, “Sold @ MTA” signs proudly adorned many of the machines on display at the show floor. Accompanying them were the beaming smiles of many satisfied exhibitors.

“We brought a mixture of grinding, turning and cutting machines to MTA2013. So far we have sold six out of seven machines to automation and precision engineering companies. Altogether we made about S$800,000 in sales, we are extremely happy,” said Mr. Simon Teo, Director of ST Machinery. 

Some other exhibitors who managed to secure business transactions at the show include Accrington Precision Machine Tools, Anhui Krras Machine Tools, DKSH Technology, EHN & Land, Flexspeed, Gustav Gockel Maschinenfabrik, Hexagon Metrology, Ichi Seiki, IM Machinery Asia, J-Tech Machinery, Makino, Mitutoyo, Newserv Machinery, Pryor Marking, Rotec Singapore and Taipei Industries.

Dr. Moh Chong Tau, CEO of Makino Asia, a long-time supporter of MTA said, “The manufacturing landscape in Singapore is changing, and I am very glad to see that events such as MTA, that are very important to our industry, are also evolving in order to keep up with the changing times. There is a very high quality of visitors at this year’s show and we have managed to sell seven machines and generate 40 – 60 promising leads. We will definitely be back for MTA2015.”

Overall, Mr. William Lim, Project Director for machinery events at Singapore Exhibition Services, organiser of MTA2013 gave the show a success rating of eight out of 10, and full marks for the quality of visitors, as senior technical engineers from industry big wigs and key buyers such as Amtek Precision Technology, Becton Dickinson Medical, Cameron, GE Aviation, Hamilton Sundstrand, Honda, PerkinElmer, Pratt and Whitney and SMB Switchgear & Engineering among many others were seen combing the show floor.
